1. Leveld Kunstnartun (Art Center) program
Call for applications for artist in residence 1st of January – 31st of July 2018.
Deadline 25th of August 2017.
Professional artists, writers, musicians, composers, designers, architects, cultural workers etc. are eligible to apply. The applicants must hold a membership in a professional organization. The selection is based on artistic merits and the quality of artistic practice.
Applicants from outside the Nordic region are expected to master the English or German language. The program is not available for students.
The program includes free stay, studio and internet access at Leveld Kunstnartun. The artists shall bring their own materials, utensils, PC etc. themselves.
The program is usually for app. one month, but a longer or shorter stay is negotiable.
It is mandatory that the residents convey their project/art or related subjects locally by exhibition, concert, lecture et al.
Arrival is usually on Sundays, departure on Saturdays.

The stay is based on self-catering and self-cleaning.
2. Leveld Kunstnartun (Art Center)
Consist of a renovated house from the 1950’ies. (“The teachers house”) The house is 168 m2 and has two double sleeping rooms, one with an extra bed including bed-linen.
The newly renovated kitchen and bathroom are fully equipped with all utensils, towels etc.
You find two bright living rooms including dining table, couch, desk etc. In the basement there is a garage possible to use as un-heated workshop.
If artists-in residence are willing to share bedroom, 4-5 persons can stay for mini seminars, brainstorming et al. The house has a staircase not suitable for handicapped.
“Astrid cottage” is a small, red 45 m2 cottage with one bed room, bath, kitchen all fully equipped. «Astrid cottage» is suitable 1- 2 persons (a couple).
“The Shed” is fully renovated with a heated 20 m2 bright studio including table chairs, easel.
«The Barn» has two (one 25 m2 and one 50 m2) studios. Both are flexibly built for different types of use with good light and heat.
The notched storehouse («Stabbur«) formerly belonging to the author Jens Bjørneboe, has 3 rooms for inspiration, contemplation, writing etc.
3. The Leveld Village
Leveld is a small village in Ål municipality, Hallingdal in the midst of mountainous Norway app. 700 m above sea-level. The small village has a special landscape with the farms pread out on the sunny side of the valley. Leveld has been nominated as a conservation area. Leveld has app. 300 inhabitants, infant school, and Kindergarten, and a local shop.
There are splendid opportunities for hiking in the spectacular mountains both summer and on skies in winter.
From the 1930’ies about twenty artists and some writers dwelled in Leveld appreciating the view and bright clean air. They stayed in the farms and became part of the community. Agnar Mykle and Jens Bjørneboe were authors staying in Leveld. The notched storehouse belonged to Jens Bjørneboe during his transformation from a scholared painter to a well-known author. The building can be used for contemplation and writing. Leveld art center wish to maintain the tradition with artists in Leveld.
4. Ål in Hallingdal
Ål municipality has 4.700 inhabitants and culture and health as priority. There is a strong cultural engagement centered on Ål culture center with theater scene, concert hall, Rolf Nesch museum (art), library, cinema an exhibition hall. You find a secondary school and a deaf aid center. All shopping has to be done in Ål as there are no shops in Leveld.
Ål village is situated midway between Oslo and Bergen on the Oslo – Bergen railway also with national road Rv 7 passing by. Leveld is 13 km from Ål with autobus connection. Pick-up at the Ål station can be arranged. In case you bring your own car it gives you plenty of possibilities for sight-seeing in the area.

Depending on our sponsor ECO it may be possible also to apply for a minor scholarship for young artist etc. during the stay. Please specify and explain if you apply for this scholarship which will be paid in arrears.
Please indicate the desired period and time of the stay (1-3 months) and if you desire a stay in solitude or you are willing to share kitchen and bathroom with each separate bedroom.
